A freight quote is only as good as the details behind it. Understanding what couriers base their charges on helps you quote accurately and avoid surprises on the invoice.
What goes into a quote
Freight rates in Tranzit Group Australia are calculated from the information available when you quote, which can include:
- the collection and delivery locations, including suburb and postcode
- the number of packages, their actual weight and dimensions
- cubic or volumetric weight
- the service type and any delivery requirements
- the courier's pricing, fuel levies and applicable surcharges
Why size matters as much as weight
A large, light parcel takes up as much room in a truck as a heavy one, so couriers can charge on cubic or volumetric weight. Measure the packed parcel, not the product, and enter the actual dimensions.
Why a charge can change after pickup
Couriers can weigh, measure or inspect a parcel after collection. If it differs from what was booked, they can adjust the freight charge. Other charges can also apply that weren't known at booking, such as fuel surcharges, remote area charges, redelivery fees or address correction fees. Tranzit Group Australia may pass these on, and we'll send you the supporting information we have if you ask.
