Sale events and the lead-up to Christmas bring more orders, but couriers are busier too. Peak trading periods are one of the things that can delay pickups and deliveries. A little preparation keeps your dispatch moving.
A few weeks before
- Order enough boxes, satchels, tape and label stock to get through your busiest week.
- Connect a second courier, so you have a backup if one network gets congested.
- Review your shipping rules and default courier.
- Check your printer works and your team knows how to print a batch.
During the rush
- Print each day's labels, manifests and packing slips in one run.
- Fix skipped orders straight away: the reason is shown.
- Have parcels packed, labelled and ready at the collection point before pickup.
- Use Get Quote to compare couriers for unusual orders.
Keeping customers informed
Delivery dates are estimates unless a service is described as guaranteed. Tell customers that delivery can take longer in peak periods, and let branded tracking and SMS and email updates answer "where's my order?" for you.
Afterwards
Look at spend, delivery speed and carrier performance in the analytics dashboard to see which courier coped best, and plan next year's setup around it.
